Classroom Tour

Today I’m sharing a few pictures of our home classroom. There isn’t much wall space, so we have to be creative. For example, I hung several posters on one clip. This way I can easily swap out the handwriting chart for the times table chart. I’m sure I’ll tweak things as the year progresses. I focused on the organizing first, and hope to add the kid-appeal look to the room next. Each picture has little notes on it to give you a little insight to how we use it all.

I’d like to also share something with you before I close today’s post. I love this fact about my kids. They just don’t take “I don’t know” for an answer. They have learned to say, “Let’s research it!” or even, “Let’s Google it!” Tonight Joshua said we should research the letter V during school tomorrow. Yep, that one letter. He wants to know the history behind it. Who came up with this letter to represent the sound? Does it “mean” anything? Where does it come from? I love their search for knowledge, and pray they will continue to grow in wisdom.

Have a great week!

First Week of School 2012

It’s that time of year again! Time for paper, pens and books. Time for earlier bedtime routines & more organized mornings. This was our first week of school & it went great! We visited Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, MA and we established our daily routine Tues -Thursday. Every Friday we will have “Fun Friday”, which will include Learning Games or videos & a little extra creativity. On our first Friday we played the “french fry” game to review our addition facts, and we played a fun Sight Word game called “To The Top”. I didn’t grade them on handwriting & I even let them write with crayons during the game. They were expected to write neatly and get all the answers correct, though. This week was primarily review, which Gracie found a bit boring sometimes. She is ready to learn some new things!๐Ÿ™‚ A solid foundation is worth reviewing though. Next week we will review a little more, and add Spanish & Typing back to our full schedule. My favorite thing for this year, so far, is our new History Timeline. We will be adding pictures to it as we study events.

*Joshua also lost a front tooth this week! & the one right next to it is loose too! He freaked out a little bit & he said it felt weird, but he is all better today…and completely adorable.๐Ÿ˜‰

This info was shared in Twitter about Lapbooking. It is simply using a file folder to store information you learn in school, usually in a creative way. Click on the link to learn a few basic guidelines. This doesn’t go into detail, but I will probably post more about Lapbooks later.

Great article for hubby & I…. Photography and Aviation!

Steve always talks about wanting to build a plane, (and I’m guessing he’ll start the process next year), and take pics from the sky, so I thought this was a cool article with some nice aerial photos….
